Lighting has become a key element of interior design. The humble
light bulb and lamp shade has morphed into all sorts of artistic
creations. This new collection by Italian design firm Artmide
is a case in point. The lines between art and lighting have been
fabulously blurred. Art installation or living room light? Who cares,
as long as we can buy one. by Lisa Evans
You might think that eating dinner off the ground
would be hard to come by, and possibly not all that appetizing.
Apart from weedy dinners on airplanes, there is little else that you
can choose from. But now, thanks to Dinner In The Sky,
up to 22 people can dine in anywhere, from a golf course to a castle to
a public square, in complete elegance. A chef, waiter and
entertainer accompany the guests, providing food, wine and music as you
feast on both victuals and visuals. And remember what they say
about what mountain air does to your appetite. Being this high
will obviously cut the calories in half. by Guy Logan via Springwise
Thieves and criminal thrill seekers beware – the police car chase will never be the same again. Thanks to some sophisticated new technology created by Virginia-based company Starchase, police can now track crooks by shooting Batman-esque GPS homing devices like darts and sticking them to the back of fleeing vehicles. Instead of a frantic pursuit, the pursing police cruiser eases off and allows police headquarters to track the suspect by computer. Police can then move in for a calmer arrest. by Billy T via Popular Science
What started as a nerdy concept for the creator of the milliondollarhomepage.com has now spread into a building version in the same vein. So that we're on the same page (pardon the pun), milliondollarhomepage.com is a site devised by a 20-year-old 'minipreneur'. The site is a visual bombardment of advertising pixels on one page, and has earned its creator over a million dollars in advertising sales. Now the concept has been applied to a building developed by the Sandberg Institute. With companies like Nike and Apple on board, the concept simply cant fail. by Billy T
Is it an air bag or an affair bag? This new advertisement takes life saving air bags to a new and sexy height. The usually dull bags which inflate upon impact have caused controversy in the past over the fact that they actually can harm you upon inflation. These new bags are bound to cause even further controversy. Clever, funny and edgy , the campaign takes to the highways in a most 'revealing' manner. Could this be the ultimate SAFE SEX campaign? by Billy T via Sexculptures
So, how do you get your message across and get people talking about your product? You do what Papa John's Pizza did. Created by Saatchi & Saatchi, Peru, this clever, yet simple idea in
promoting Papa John's Pizza won gold at the recent Cannes International
advertising awards. Brilliant! by Billy T
Fashion wants to colonize the worlds it seems.
Not content with just dressing us, some brands are fast moving moving
into the hotel business. Apart from Versace, Armani & Bulgari -
Byblos is now making waves with its stunning Art Hotel Villa Amista
in Italy. Byblos owner Dino Facchini teamed up with Milan architect and
designer Alessandro Mendini on the project which saw the major
restoration of a fifteenth-century Venetian villa in the heart of
Valpolicella wine country. A deeply personal project for Facchini, the
hotel showcases his impressive art collection. The interiors are a sexy
mix of styles, from baroque to pop art and techno futurism.
Missoni
is next in line to conquer the fashion business. Missoni, which has a
successful home furnishings collection, has signed a worldwide
licensing agreement with Rezidor SAS Hospitality, a Belgian hotel
chain. The agreement will see the development of 30 Hotel Missonis,
scheduled for completion by 2010. by Billy T
We're loving this quirky take on this summer's must have shoe, the wedge. Created by English shoe designer Angeline Tournier,
these light weight wedges feature ˜Betty & Veronica" cartoon strips
on the heels. The t-bar straps come in great summer colours. Now all
you need is a sundress or a pair of peddle pushers and this season's
hot look is complete. by Lisa Evans
The only thing worse than being trapped in a
sleeping bag, is needing to go to the toilet in one. Well cast those
fears aside as the new Selk'bag
is here. This sleeping bag is more like a body bag ( not the corpse
ones ). It's padded and shaped to the human form and allows free
movement both in and out of sleep, where traditional sleeping bags
don't. The various ties and adjustment belts allow for a very snug fir
which keeps the warmth in and gives you further control when moving
about. Selk'bag is padded with a number of layered inserts which
provide maximum comfort when lying on even the hardest surfaces. Best
of all , even the ugliest camper can look positively cute once wrapped
in the Selk'bag. Snug, Smart, freeing! Now selling online by Billy T
Style has rarely been a priority in industrial design for the disabled - until now that is. Designed in Hungary, the Kenguruis
a car specially designed for wheelchair users. The car's interior space
has no front seat, just a space built to house the drivers own
wheelchair so all he/she has to do is simply roll in through the extra
large car doors and into position. The wheelchair locks into place,
within easy reach of the car's controls which are centred around a
joystick. It's light years away from the current options for disabled
drivers, which involve having to hoist themselves into the driver's
seat of standard cars. by Billy T
Pee and Poo are not strangers to us here at the cool hunter, we unearthed them some time ago with a great response from our readers. Well the Pee and Poo wave has hit the world of merchandise in the form of their official online store. From baby wear through to tees and socks, the stuff has pee and poo all over it ( in a good way that is ) These characters are a perfect example of the appeal of simplicity, proving that a little drop of wee and a plop of poo can go a long way! by Andy G
