Tabula rasa is Latin for blank slate, which perfectly describes the Kunsthaus museum that is essentially an empty shell.  Inside, thirty international artists combined models, videos, photographs, paintings, and specially commissioned installations into a synchronized exposition entitled M-City.  M-City is the brainchild of ReD (Research + Design), who endeavored to produce a synergy of the existing museum structure and content exhibited therein.  FLUOscape is presented on the first floor as an orthogonal grid of 586 repetitive fluorescent lights and flags of various lengths, which give the space a topographic feel.  On the second floor, the CONEplex installation consists of six projection environments, whereby visitors can walk underneath floating funnels and view video portraits of cities such as: Basel, Graz, Trieste, RurhStadt, Krakow, and Ljubljana.  Due to the success of M-City, ReD was recently invited to display the project at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris for the exhibition titled "Architectures Scenographies".  Seemingly simplistic and sterile, this initiative redefines the museum experience and is welcome change from the roped barriers of yore. by Harold C
